Echo Col and Echo Lake

Echo Lake and Echo Col

Beautiful trip to check out Echo Lake and Echo Col. As an – ehem – veteran going solo with a pack, I reached the snowfield at the base of the col and decided it would be wise to not go up the col this time – jury is still out if I ever will. But it was amazing and gorgeous. Lots of tiresome talus hopping, and some route finding but once you figure it out the approach at least is simple. The upper Sabrina basin is surprisingly majestical!

The col is the little notch at the top of the climb here. Apparently a couple of class 3 moves at the top, but I’ll have to check for myself another time 🙂
This time, I wisely brought my microspikes to cross the snowfield. Much, much easier than crossing a talus field.
So much talus. So little time.
Echo Lake is austere and beautiful. The backpacker is only one of those things.
The outlet of Echo Lake tumbles down a small gully. It’s a beautiful walk up.
The view down from Echo Lake towards Moonlight Lake. The basin in between is like a lush paradise with streams and flowers and grass.
The beautiful Moonlight Falls.
My walk out. Peaceful in the early morning.
Tasty treats on the trail. I looked them up later. Mountain Currants or ribes. Tart and delicious.
