From 1994-1999 I worked for News America doing investigative documentary work for NHK, Japan’s National TV Network – something like Japan’s BBC. During that time I researched and field produced over 50 documentaries included special programs, features, and news items. Our team was nominated for several awards including a Galaxy award – like Japan’s Emmy, and the Prix D’Italie. I’m very proud of our investigative work on various topics like the patenting of genetic material, fraud in Japan’s Bubble economy, and especially our undercover work that documented the spread of HIV through the plasma supply during the 1980’s. In our documentation and undercover work, we were able to prove that corporations in Europe, US and Japan were knowingly using HIV tainted blood for hemophilia products. It was quite a big story that led to prosecution, and resignation of Health Ministers in Japan. A very big tip of the hat to my friends and colleagues, Yuichiro Ando, Masa Funaki and producers Shige Ryuke. A big thanks to real hero who shall remain nameless. She knows who she is.
